LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

On behalf of St. Matthew School and Child Care Ministry, I would like to invite you to come and see our very special school! St. Matthew School has been a ministry of St. Matthew Church since 1867. We educate children from preschool through fifth grade, and we focus on not only their academic growth, but their social and spiritual growth as well. Because of our small class sizes, our school is often described as a family, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
At St. Matthew, we strive to help each child reach his or her God-given potential, and we are open to families of all faiths. Currently, about 50% of our students are Catholic, and about 50% of our students belong to other Christian faiths. This diversity provides us with a wonderful opportunity to learn from each another. We want our students to know that God is real and that Jesus loves them, and we begin and end each day with prayer.
For the past five years, the Department of Education named St. Matthew as one of Indiana’s “Grade A” schools. We have also been named an Indiana "Four Star School" three times. Both of these awards are the result of the dedication, commitment, and hard work of teachers, parents, and students working together. Our graduates continue to excel at both the junior high and high school level.
To better meet each child’s individual needs, our teachers use differentiated instruction. We also offer multiage classes in the afternoon which give the students a unique opportunity to learn from one another. Special classes include music, art, physical education, and Spanish. Technology is integrated into the curriculum on a daily basis. Thanks to the community’s generous support of our annual St. Matthew School Benefit Auction, we have been able to add Promethean boards, student response clickers, document cameras, and iPads to our classrooms.
Because of parishioner tithing and fundraisers, we are able to offer tuition at a greatly reduced rate. There are also several scholarship opportunities available to families including the Indiana School Choice Scholarships, SGO Scholarships, and parish endowments.
If St. Matthew School sounds like a good fit for your child(ren), please give me a call. I would be happy to give you a tour and answer any questions that you might have. We hope that you will choose to become part of our school family!
Yours in Christ,
