  • St. Matthew School has been educating children in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, since 1867.
  • We serve children in preschool through 5th grade and welcome families of all faiths.
  • Approximately 50% of our students are Catholic, and 50% are non-Catholic.
  • Nearly all students benefit from scholarships through the Choice Scholarship program and parish endowments.
  • Our school is accredited by the State of Indiana and has earned "Grade A" recognition five times.
  • We’ve also been honored as a "Four Star School" three times for academic excellence.

  • St. Matthew School has a student-teacher ratio of 10:1, allowing for personalized attention and support.

  • The K-5 curriculum includes Art, Technology, Handwriting, Health, Language Arts, Math, Music, PE, Religion, Science, Social Studies, and Spanish/Immersion Spanish.
  • We integrate technology into learning with tools like Promethean boards and Chromebooks to enhance the educational experience.
  • We celebrate our school community through shared events, school spirit, and are proud to be SMS Wildcat Cubs.
