St. Matthew School has been educating children in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, since 1867.
We serve children in preschool through 5th grade and welcome families of all faiths.
Approximately 50% of our students are Catholic, and 50% are non-Catholic.
Nearly all students benefit from scholarships through the Choice Scholarship program and parish endowments.
Our school is accredited by the State of Indiana and has earned "Grade A" recognition five times.
We’ve also been honored as a "Four Star School" three times for academic excellence.

St. Matthew School has a student-teacher ratio of 10:1, allowing for personalized attention and support.
Our dedicated teachers, many with advanced degrees, create a warm, supportive environment where each student feels valued.
The K-5 curriculum includes Art, Technology, Handwriting, Health, Language Arts, Math, Music, PE, Religion, Science, Social Studies, and Spanish/Immersion Spanish.
We integrate technology into learning with tools like Promethean boards and Chromebooks to enhance the educational experience.
We celebrate our school community through shared events, school spirit, and are proud to be SMS Wildcat Cubs.

St. Matthew School is deeply committed to service within our community.
We raise funds for causes like the Mason Mileham Foundation and the Riverbend Food Pantry to make a positive impact on those in need.
Our students and families participate in local events, demonstrating our dedication to serving and supporting our neighbors.
Service is part of our Catholic faith and curriculum, teaching students the value of giving back to the community.
