1. Is St. Matthew School accredited?
Yes, St. Matthew School is fully accredited by the State of Indiana and AdvancEd.
2. Do you have to be Catholic to attend St. Matthew School?
St. Matthew School is open to children of all faiths. About 50% of our students are Catholic, and about 50% of our students belong to other Christian faiths.
3. What are your school hours?
Our school day begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m.
4. Do you offer before school care?
We open our doors at 7:15 a.m. The students report to the gym, and the teachers take turns supervising the students until 8:00 a.m. There is no charge for before school care.
5. What is your curriculum?
Our teachers follow the Indiana State Standards and Common Core Standards as required by the Indiana Department of Education. Our teachers use IDOE approved textbooks. Our curriculum consists of the following subjects: Religion, Math, Reading, Grammar, Spelling, Writing, Handwriting, Science, Health, Social Studies, Technology, Art, Music, Spanish, and Physical Education.
6. Do you offer after school care?
Students can attend after school care from 2:45 until 6:00 p.m. The cost is $10 per day. The students are given a healthy snack and quiet time to complete homework. The students also have free time to play outside (weather permitting) or in the school gymnasium.
7. Is bus service available?
The Metropolitan School District of Mt. Vernon provides bus transportation for our families both before and after school. If you would like for your child to ride the bus, you will need to contact the MSD-MV office at 838-4471 to find out the name of your bus drive and his/her bus number.
8. Can I eat lunch with my child?
We encourage our parents to visit school as often as possible. Parents are always welcome to come eat lunch with their children. Simply contact the school office by 9:00 a.m. to order your lunch.
9. What extracurricular activities does St. Matthew offer students?
Students at St. Matthew participate in a variety of extracurricular activities including art club, craft camp, bowling, choir, coding club, science club, student council, basketball, cheerleading, and wrestling. Many of our students also participate in the Mt. Vernon Park & Recreation athletic leagues.
